Why do we use Potassium Sorbate?

Potassium sorbate is used in very small amounts to inhibit the growth of yeast and molds in foods like cheese and wine. Although our potassium sorbate is synthetic, potassium sorbate can occur naturally in berries and is generally considered to be safe. 

We have currently heard about animal studies involving Potassium sorbate that create problems in the health of animals. In those studies, animals are fed an average of 15% of their diet on Potassium Sorbate.  However, when used at levels that would be found in the American diet, or levels slightly higher than an American diet, long term studies have shown no effect in the animals studied.

Further, Modere continually tests to ensure that the amounts of Potassium are within normal level and well below that of the American diet. As studies continue to come forward on various ingredients, Modere’s scientific board will continue to review for safety and efficacy.

Coconut Lime and Mango Trim contain Potassium Sorbate for freshness, Chocolate, Vanilla and Lemon contain other ingredients that preserve freshness so they do not need the Potassium Sorbate.
