Why do we have certain chemicals in our products if we are a clean company?

There are many chemicals found in Modere's products that are safe to use in specific ways or at certain amounts.  Claims of the toxicity found on the internet do not take into account the use or formulation of the ingredients in our products. Our strict safety standards, as well as independent testing and verification, show that Modere's products are both safe and effective.

Information found on the internet regarding the safety of individual ingredients may sometimes be confusing to the lay reader with minimal chemistry or toxicology background. As with any internet search, small differences in search parameters can bring widely varying results.

Search results of cosmetic and nutritional ingredients used by Modere will most often show no potential safety concerns for those ingredients. However, there may be times when a search result displays safety information which could include such concerns as potential eye/skin irritation, toxicity or other related problems. Often, these concerns are taken from the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) of the individual chemical ingredient. The caution statements found in MSDS content are designed to protect the chemical handler when dealing with the purified, concentrated, singular chemical. This does not necessarily correlate directly with its relative safety when formulated in a consumer product, due to differences in concentration and formulation.

The concentration of an ingredient in a given formula has a great deal to do with its safety. Proper formulation of the finished product also guarantees that the ingredient is used in optimal conditions (i.e. pH, mixing conditions, etc.) and avoids any potential negative interactions with other ingredients. All ingredients used in Modere products are formulated to be as safe as possible through a multiple-step process. All formulas are reviewed on numerous levels including chemistry, regulatory compliance, quality and finished product safety testing. This review process culminates with the review of the Modere Scientific Advisory Board to verify that products are as safe as possible, while also avoiding controversial ingredients.
